Mahoning Valley – (Karen Kastner) The Bike Hike Trail off U.S. Route 224 in Boardman Township was a microcosm of flooding in the Mahoning Valley in the wake of heavy rains Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. Both the roadway and bridge to the restaurant located just off the path were impassable, and a tree had been downed, blocking the trail to all but the most intrepid traveler. Although there was unseasonable thunder and lightening, the tree appeared to have just given way due to moisture. Potholes took shape on 224 within a few hours. The springlike morning temperature dropped as the day went on.
